Brave fundraisers conquer Cathedral abseil

Brave charity supporters took to the heights of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral last month to support their local hospitals.

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals staff and members of the community undertook the challenge to raise money for Whiston and St Helens Hospitals’ Charity, and Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals’ Charity. The funds will be used to fund lifesaving equipment and to modernise hospital environments, over and above what is provided by the NHS.

The abseil is a 150ft descent from above the Great West Door of the iconic cathedral, taking in breath-taking views of the Liverpool skyline.

The courageous fundraisers included Janet Hart, a Theatre Practitioner at St Helens Hospital, who took part in the abseil to raise money for the charity’s Playground SOS appeal. The appeal aims to raise £20,000 to fund a new playground at Whiston Hospital for the Trust’s youngest patients to enjoy while they are at hospital.

Denise Littler, Charity Fundraiser, said that she was blown away by the generosity of the brave abseilers:

‘I can’t thank our generous charity supporters enough. It’s down to support like theirs that our charities are able to support the life-saving work of our hospitals. And what a brave way to support such a worthwhile cause – you wouldn’t catch me up there!’
